A New Trajan’s Portrait From Hispania. Pliny the Younger and the Dating of Trajan’s First Portrait Type

Das Ziel des Beitrages ist es, ein Porträt zu analysieren, das im Jahr 2008 am Forum in Regina (Provinz Baetica) gefunden wurde. Die Ikonographie des Kopfes sichert seine Identifizierung als ein Porträt Trajans. Zudem weist die Anordnung des Haares über der Stirn seine Zugehörigkeit zum zweiten Typus der Trajansporträts aus. Darüber hinaus zielt der Beitrag darauf, die Gründe für die Schaffung und die Datierung des ersten und zweiten Typus der Trajansporträts zu diskutieren. Ein Zitat des Panegyrikus Plinius’ des Jüngeren deutet darauf hin, dass a) der erste Porträttypus Trajans im Jahr 97 n. Chr. anläßlich seiner Adoption durch Nerva geschaffen wurde; b) der »Typus II« im Jahr 98 n. Chr. geschaffen wurde, um den Antritt Trajans in den Prinzipat zu feiern. Daher musste der Kopf Trajans aus Regina frühestens um das Jahr 98 n. Chr. geschaffen worden sein, als Teil der Ehrung, die Hispania dem neuen Princeps widmete.The aim of this work is the analysis of a portrait-head, which was found in 2008 in the Forum of Regina (province Baetica). The iconography of the head permits its identification as a portrait of Trajan, and the rendering of the hair on the brow indicates its belonging to Trajan’s II portrait type. On the other hand, this article discusses the cause and the time of creation of Trajan’s I and II portrait types. A quote from Pliny the Younger’s Panegyricus indicates that a) Trajan’s I portrait type was created in 97 A.D. to mark Trajan’s adoption by Nerva; b) the »type II« must have been created in 98 A.D., to celebrate Trajan’s accession to the Principate. Therefore, Trajan’s head from Regina must have been carved around the year 98 A.D., on the occasion of the homages that Hispania dedicated to the new Princeps.El objetivo de este trabajo es analizar una cabeza-retrato, que fue encontrada en el año 2008 en el Foro de Regina (provincia Baetica). Los rasgos iconográficos de la cabeza permiten su identificación como un retrato de Trajano y la distribución del pelo sobre la frente indica su pertenencia al tipo II de los retratos de Trajano. Por otro lado, este artículo discute la causa y el momento de creación de los tipos I y II de los retratos de Trajano. Una cita del Panegírico de Plinio el Joven indica que a) el tipo I de los retratos de Trajano fue creado en el año 97 d. C. para celebrar la adopción de Trajano por parte de Nerva; b) el tipo II debió ser creado en el año 98 d. C., para conmemorar la llegada de Trajano al principado. Por ello, la cabeza de Trajano procedente de Regina debió haber sido labrada en torno al año 98 d. C., con ocasión de los homenajes que Hispania dedicó al nuevo Princeps
