Am Ende der Mittelbronzezeit und zu Beginn der Spätbronzezeit erfreuen sich naturnahe Tierdarstellungen in der ägäischen Glyptik großer Beliebtheit. Vor diesem Hintergrund sind die häufig anzutreffenden Darstellungen, die eine bemähnte Löwin mit ausgeprägten Zitzen zeigen, auf Unverständnis gestoßen. Die Übertragung geschlechtsspezifischer Merkmale des männlichen Vertreters auf das Muttertier lässt sich allerdings auch bei anderen, in Griechenland heimischen Tierarten wie Hirsch, Schaf, Ziege und Rind beobachten. Demnach spiegelt dieses Phänomen allem Anschein nach nicht die Unkenntnis des Künstlers in Bezug auf die Anatomie des Tieres wider, sondern bezeichnet einen bewusst gesetzten Kunstgriff zur eindeutigen Identifizierung der betreffen...
