Renaissance courtesy literature sets forth social and political concepts that provide insights into the cultural values of the Elizabethan age thus, a study of these concepts provides one point of view for a scholar's understanding the creative literature of the period. The qualities of courtesy figures—the court-lady figure, the ecclesiastical figure, the soldier/adviser figure, and the king figure—are found throughout Renaissance courtesy literature, but are particularly evident in specific works such as Erasmus' The Education of a Christian Prince, Elyot's The Governor, and Castiglione's The Courtier.
