The myxamoebae and swarm cells of the Myxomycete Physarum flavicomum grow in two partially defined media in which the diploid phase has already been grown. The first growth medium (SD) is composed of: basal salts, trace elements, glucose, casein hydrolysate, yeast extract and hematin. The second medium (BTC) is simpler than the first one since yeast extract has been substituted with the vitamins biotin and thiamine.
