This review of recent; reports concerning biosynthesis of amino acids in microorganisms is primarily limited to those published during the past decade. These papers were examined, first with the purpose of delineating the ordinary biosynthetic pathway and any important alternative routes, and then elucidating the mechanisms through which control of each pathway is effected in various microbial species. A discussion of the contributions of amino acid studies is included to indicate benefits, applications, and technics of investigation into this biosynthesis; and a review of generalized reactions is included.Biology and Biochemistry, Department o
