Purpose of the study. The purpose of this study was to determine if the Audio-Lingual Structured Approach to Language Development for Spanish-Speaking Kindergartners was a more effective method of teaching Spanish-speaking kindergartners than the regular language program in two elementary schools. Procedures and source of data. A sample of 155 kindergartners from a population of 251 eligible kindergartners in Anson Jones and Sidney Sherman Elementary School were assigned randomly to the four kindergarten teachers. They were further assigned to eight pilot and eight control groups for language instruction.
