This research is research about Grammatical Cohesion in students’ thesis background section of English language education at UIR. The purpose of this research is to find out the kinds of grammatical cohesion, they are; reference, substitution, ellipsis, and conjunction and to analyze the function of it. The method of this research is qualitative method. The data source of this research is ten undergraduate students of English Language Education Students of UIR especially in background of the problem section, who made thesis in a range year 2016-2018.
