Reimagining Library Services: The Ongoing Challenge for Academic Libraries to Adapt Information Literacy Skills Instruction to Today’s Student Learners

Has the state of America’s higher education students’ information literacy turned into a reduced version of what it once was? Knowledge and information literacy skills are vital attributes for students to possess to successfully compete in the modern hyper-technology driven environment; yet, some academic libraries and their staffs are increasingly encountering new student learners with lower levels of literacy skills. If that is the case, what factors have contributed to this situation? If student learners are lacking in basic literacy skills, how does that impact the higher education library’s role in teaching information literacy? To remain relevant to their patron bases, libraries have had to adjust the methods that are used to communicate with their modern users.
