While there is extensive attention to the importance of student academic mindset to their success, few studies in higher education have explored the contribution of instructor mindset to student success. This session will review results from a research program that has examined the connection of instructor mindset and motivation to teaching practices. Participants will reflect on the research results and consider the likely relationship of instructor growth/fixed mindset and motivation to student progress and engagement. We will discuss mechanisms to encourage growth mindset among students and mastery orientation and growth mindset among instructors
