Building Trust & Managing Stress: Prioritizing Educator Well-being to Improve School Climate

Teaching consistently ranks among the highest stress professions, second only to nursing. And, research tells us a whopping 41% of teachers leave the profession within 5 years. Teaching has always been extremely demanding, but especially in the last year and-a-half with no end in sight, unfortunately. What research also tells us is that stress and burnout can not only cause teachers to leave but can significantly impair the instructional effectiveness and classroom climate of educators, which in turn can affect the social-emotional and academic growth of their students. This session will discuss how prioritizing educators\u27 own social-emotional development of foundational skills to build trust and manage stress can be a gamechanger for positive relationships - as a staff team, with students, and as a whole school. We’ll also explore how small routines make lasting change, based in reflection, strategies, and intentional practice; and that positive relationships are a major key to student success. Join us to learn how focusing on adult SEL makes supporting students easier and relationships stronger. Important Note: Information about the new Second Step SEL for Adults program itself will not be the focus, however, to illustrate the research and concepts, a variety of strategies from the program will be shared
