Using narratives of adults born intersexed, we attempt in the present study to show how persons build and negotiate a self definition in very diverse ways, in a context constrained by sexual norms. Intersexed persons deal with a body situated in a “borderline” position with respect to social norms, a body that medical practice tries to make more intelligible through reference to morphological normative codes, and yet, as opposed to the illusion of a permanent resolution through medical body alteration, a body liable to bring the persons back to a configuration “never completely similar to the configuration of others” at different times of their life and experience.
