The increase of global CO2 concentration, mainly due to anthropogenic emissions from combustion of fossil fuels, is responsible for severe environmental issues, in particular global warming. Limitations in the use of polluting energy sources and the development of strategies for the reduction of CO2 emissions are therefore strictly urgent.
