This article addresses the activities of Władysław Kościelski, who came from Kuyavia (Szarlej, at Lake Gopło) in the Ottoman Empire. He first found himself in the Balkans in 1849, intending to make his way into the ranks of the Hungarian insurgents. When this uprising failed, his plans changed and he went to Vidin – a camp for refugees from Hungary – on behalf of the Agency and at the request of Michał Czajkowski. His deeds in the camp were met with mixed reactions. He finally left the Ottoman Empire in 1852 because of some disagreements, reappearing there at the beginning of the Crimean War. After the war, he remained in the Sultan’s service for a long time, making a military and political career for himself.Artykuł omawia działalność poch...
