L’autobiographie langagière en classe : trajectoire d’appropriation vers la réflexivité et la conscientisation du capital plurilingue des élèves

This article’s focus is the notion of language biography and its outcomes for both learners and teachers in language education. A survey was disseminated in order to reveal the presence of this text genre in student books and curricula, as well as the important contribution of language biographies to the conscientisation and reflexivity of the linguistic capital of pupils. A corpus of written language biographies by pupils of junior high school formed the basis of the study. Through this record of personal, language-learning history we identify information on linguistic, cultural and learning experiences gained in and outside formal education contexts. The pupils’ response was positive and led them and us to the deconstruction and reconstruction of their presentations and attitudes toward languages and cultures. They evaluate their learning strategies and goals on language learning and cultural experience and also proceed to assess their language competencies. Language autobiography constitutes a challenge for every educator wishing to enrich their strategies to plurilingual students’ needs and to achieve fruitful didactic outcomes by becoming aware of the language mosaic in the class.This article’s focus is the notion of language biography and its outcomes for both learners and teachers in language education. L'enquête a été réalisée afin de révéler la présence de ce genre de texte dans les livres des élèves et dans les programmes d'études et, de plus, l'importante contribution à la conscientisation et à la réflexivité du capital linguistique de nos élèves. Un corpus de biographies langagières écrites par des élèves du premier cycle du secondaire a été constitué comme base de l'étude. Grâce à ce registre de l'histoire personnelle de l'apprentissage des langues, nous disposons d’informations sur les expériences linguistiques, culturelles et d'apprentissage acquises dans et au dehors des contextes éducatifs formels. La réaction des élèves a été positive et les a conduits, avec nous, à déconstruire et à reconstruire leurs représentations et leurs attitudes à l'égard des langues et des cultures. Ils évaluent leurs stratégies et objectifs d'apprentissage sur l'apprentissage des langues et l'expérience culturelle et, en même temps, ils procèdent à l'évaluation de leurs compétences linguistiques. L'autobiographie langagière constitue donc un défi pour tout éducateur souhaitant enrichir ses stratégies en fonction des besoins des élèves plurilingues et obtenir des résultats didactiques fructueux en prenant conscience de la mosaïque linguistique de la classe
