ORLANDO FALS BORDA: DEL CIENTIFICISMO A LA SUBVERSIÓN MORAL. TRÁNSITOS Y RECONSTRUCCIONES DE UN PENSAMIENTO CRÍTICO

This article reconstructs the intellectual career of Orlando Fals Borda (1925-2008), one of the founders of sociology as a career in Colombia and an influential intellectual figure of the left. Fals Borda’s ideas have had significant impact throughout all of Latin America and this article argues that his ideas were strongly influenced by the fundamental tension felt during this time: On one hand the desire to promote scientific work committed to social change and sharply criticizing Marxism, and on the other hand, defending the idea of change based on religious motives, in sharp contrast to violent and revolutionary action. As such, Fals Borda`s transient ideas display the inherent tension associated with developing a line of critical thinking that looks to mold ideas to conflictive and outlying contexts.El presente artículo reconstruye la trayectoria intelectual de Orlando Fals Borda (1925-2008), uno de los fundadores de la sociología como profesión en Colombia e influyente intelectual de izquierda cuyas ideas han tenido un destacado alcance en toda América Latina. Se plantea que el pensamiento de Fals Borda estuvo atravesado por una tensión fundamental de su época, por una parte, el deseo de promover el trabajo científico comprometido con el cambio social en diálogo crítico con el marxismo y, por otra parte, la defensa de una idea de cambio con bases religiosas en contraposición a la acción violenta y revolucionaria. En este sentido, los tránsitos de las de las ideas de Fals Borda permiten advertir las tensiones inherentes al desarrollo de un pensamiento crítico que busca moldear las ideas a los contextos periféricos y conflictivos
