National audienceThe association potters-limemakers or tiel-makers-limemakers is such a common phenomenon that it may seem useles to mention new exemples, except if the techniques aused are innovating. The use of limekilns with superimposed hearths in the Lower Rhône region as early as the XIIIth century is a very probable hypothesis in view of stratigraphy and the succession of remains unearthed at Bollène. This process using successive hearths seems to be attested by excavations in and after the XVIIth century; it is not mentioned in the encyclopedic studies of the following century. Its "rediscovery” in the XIXth century limemakers' handbooks curiously refers to an Apt crockery-maker's innovation, maybe in the wake of the aristocracy's ”...
