International audienceThe aim of this article is to examine in a mainly empirical and exploratory manner how the chief executives of social and solidarity economy organizations judge their relationship with cooperative banks in France. In their view, are cooperative banks the same as other banks or do they see them as genuine partners? Does the concept of proximity play a role in the sense of partnership? If so, what types and forms of proximity are there? Using the transcripts of interviews from fieldwork, we test an interpretative model of proximity based on theoretical work in new institutional economics dealing with territory.
