THE NEEDS ASSESSMENT OF ELECTRONIC MEDIA FOR TEACHING AND LEARNING IN THE 21ST CENTURY: A CASE STUDY OF THE COLLEGES OF EDUCATION IN GHANA

The objectives of this research were, 1) to find out suitable types of electronic media used for teaching and learning in the colleges of education in Ghana. 2) to develop a suitable electronic media prototype to be used in the colleges of education in Ghana, 3) to find out the quality of the electronic media developed for teaching and learning in the colleges of education in Ghana. 17 experts used for the research included 10 tutors and 7 administrators from ten colleges of education in Ghana, which were obtained through purposive sampling. The Delphi method was employed by the researcher to obtain the data for this research. The results of the study showed that it is important to use electronic media for teaching and learning in the 21st century. Also, the data indicated that learners will prefer electronic content that can be accessed through mobile phones to any other electronic device. The findings also indicated that E-book is one of the best forms of electronic media that can be used for teaching and learning in the colleges of education in Ghana. Finally, the study found out that, tutors will highly recommend the use of electronic media in the colleges of education in Ghana
