Gender relationships in the epistemological constitution of Library Science: Margaret Egan and Frances Henne at Chicago School

Objetiva discutir a influência das relações de gênero na constituição epistemológica da Biblioteconomia no contexto do movimento da Escola de Chicago. Aborda a história e conceito de “Epistemologia Social”, proposto por Margaret Egan e Jesse Shera, mas que se difundiu apenas como uma teoria de Shera. Destaca a atuação de Frances E. Henne, primeira mulher a compor o corpo docente da Universidade de Chicago que, mesmo sendo uma das maiores especialistas em Biblioteca Escolar, não foi reconhecida entre os nomes de destaque do movimento. Pesquisa descritiva e qualitativa a partir de fontes bibliográficas analisadas sob a perspectiva do método histórico. Os resultados discutem o cerceamento feminino no campo científico, evidencia que o protagonismo de Egan e Henne ainda não foi devidamente reconhecido e que as relações de gênero influenciaram na constituição epistemológica da área.It aims to discuss the influence of gender relations on the epistemological constitution of Librarianship in the context of the Chicago School movement. It addresses the concept history of “Social Epistemology”, proposed by Margaret Egan and Jesse Shera, but it has spread only as a theory of Shera. It highlights the work of Frances E. Henne, the first woman to compose the faculty of the University of Chicago who, despite being one of the greatest specialists in the School Library, was not recognized among the prominent names of the movement. Descriptive and qualitative research from bibliographic sources analyzed from the perspective of the historical method. The results discuss female restraint in the scientific field, showing that the role of Egan and Henne has not yet been properly recognized and that gender relations have influenced the epistemological constitution of the area
