International audienceThe mining village of Brandes (France) was settled on a high plateau (Huez-Isère), at an altitude of 1 800 m, from the 12th to the 14th century for argentiferous lead mining. The nature and conservation of the remains are remarkably complementary both for the depiction of a professional mining society – fortification, parish church, necropolis, dwellings, standard of living, mentalities, state of health of the population – and, through excavationsand archaeometry, for an understanding of the mining techniques used for the extraction and mineralurgical treatment of the ore: crushing, grinding and cleansing.L’agglomération minière de Brandes (France) s’est implantée sur un haut plateau (Huez-Isère), à 1800 m d’altitude, ...
