Experimental binary isotropic and anisotropic Stokes spectra of the collision-induced light scattered by gaseous sulfur hexafluoride are measured at the frequency region of the nu1 vibrational Raman line. They are compared to theoretical intensities due to dipole–multipole interactions. Taking into account the results of a previous study on the interaction-induced intensities in the Rayleigh wings of gaseous sulfur hexafluoride, an experimental value of the derivative of the dipole–octopole polarizability associated with the nu1 vibrational mode is provided and compared to the result of a recent ab initio calculation
