Squamous cell carcinoma of the urinary bladder in a mare

The authors describe the clinical and diagnostic features of a bladder tumor in a 10-year-old mare. Upon physical examination, the horse presented stranguria and haematuria while rectal palpation of the abdomen revealed a firm, diffuse, soft mass associated with the urinary bladder at the pelvic inlet. An infiltrating mural mass within the urinary bladder was detected by endoscopic and echographic examination. Biopsy of the bladder mass was performed during endoscopy and was diagnostic for squamous cell carcinoma
