ANAMNESI DEGLI INTERVENTI PREGRESSI E MANUTENZIONE ODIERNA. IL CASO DELLA VASCA IN CALCESTRUZZO NELLA SCUOLA VECCHIA DELLA MISERICORDIA A VENEZIA

The spread of concrete, especially in the post-war era, profoundly influenced the construction techniques used in Venice for water defence systems: concrete was used to consolidate and protect historical materials from chemical and physical disintegration, to prevent the mechanical effects of wave motion and to create passive protection against high tides in buildings. The construction of reinforced concrete tanks began in the middle of the last century as passive systems, with the aim of protecting ground floors from tidal invasion and preserving their usability. The examples gradually saw greater integration between active and passive systems, trying not to compromise the conservation of the historicbuilding by installing the least invasive solutions. The contribution focuses on the case study of the reinforced concrete tank installed at the end of the Seventies atthe Scuola Vecchia della Misericordia: the complex, which is part of the Gallerie dell'Accademia in Venice, and which houses its Restoration Laboratories, was purchased by the Italian State in 1974 from painter Italico Brass (1870-1943), who had carried out restoration works between 1921 and 1935. In 1976, a complex intervention by the Superintendence of Venice began, ending in 1991. In 2020, the Gallerie dell'Accademia commissioned ad historical research and an update of the descriptive drawings of the historical building, the results of which are partially reported here, together with some initial reflections regarding the subsequent analysis of seismic vulnerability. The systemization of the data deduced from direct and indirect sources constituted an essential premise for updating the knowledge of the heritage buildings, as indicated in the Italian Guidelines of 2011, for a correct assessment of the seismic vulnerability
