The complexity of urban landscape is clearly shown by the dual dynamic interaction between human activities and natural environment. The latter is the origin of opportunities and hazards. A natural phenomenon does not represent by itself a disaster but can become a disaster when produces negative impacts on vulnerable communities, exposed and not prepared for the event. In addition, old, blight urban fabric, and urban voids characterize the contemporary urban landscape: even if degraded, underused and compromised in environmental and landscape aspects, they are valid resource for the regeneration of whole parts of cities and for the development of risk reduction strategies.
