Despite the progressive development of innovative animal models for Parkinson's disease, the intracerebral infusion of neurotoxin 6-hydroxydopamine (6-OHDA) remains the most widely used means to induce an experimental lesion of the nigrostriatal pathway in the animal, due to its relatively low complexity and cost, coupled with the high reproducibility of the lesion obtained.
