Fisionomia e florística de um remanescente de mata ciliar do arroio Itapuã, Viamão, RS

Although riparian forests are protected by the Código Florestal Brasileiro (Brazilian Forest Code) and have fundamental importance to the conservation of watercourses, human activities have been strongly damaging them. A floristic survey of the arboreal-shrubby species and a description of the vegetation located on the edges of Itapuã creek, Viamão, Rio Grande do Sul were carried out in order to evaluate the conservation status of the riparian vegetal communities and to provide a solution to the problems of environmental management in the region. The observation of the communities and collect of botanic material were done along continuous transects 30m far from each edge of the creek. The species were identified in the laboratory using bibliographic information, the ICN-UFRGS Herbarium and specialists. A list of arboreal-shrubby species was prepared containing their common names, families, habits and forest formations to which they belong. The riparian forest formations were classified in relation to the environmental conditions and by comparing their Sørensen similarity index. The total of species was 91, distributed within 39 families. The formations were classified as Psamophilic Forest of the Mouth, Psamophilic Forest of the Median-Lower Course and Hygrophilic Forest close to the springs. The high specific richness verified along the 13 km course of Itapuã Creek is due to the strong mouth-springs environmental gradient, which allows a great variety of niches. The 91 species recorded constitute about 37% of all native arboreal-shrubby species of the neighbor city (Porto Alegre). Some areas on the edges of the creek are damaged and show the environmental injury caused by the suppression of riparian forests.As matas ciliares, embora de fundamental importância para a conservação dos cursos d’água e protegidas pelo Código Florestal Brasileiro, têm sido fortemente impactadas pela ação antrópica. Visando avaliar o estado de conservação das comunidades vegetais ribeirinhas e contribuir com a solução dos problemas de gerenciamento ambiental da região, realizou-se o levantamento florístico das espécies arbóreas e arbustivas e a descrição da vegetação situada às margens do arroio Itapuã, Viamão, Rio Grande do Sul. A observação das comunidades e a coleta do material botânico deram-se através de caminhamento em áreas constituídas por faixas distantes 30m de cada margem do arroio. As espécies foram identificadas em laboratório com auxílio de bibliografia, do Herbário ICN-UFRGS e de especialistas. Disponibilizou-se uma listagem das espécies arbóreas e arbustivas, designando seus nomes populares, suas famílias, seus hábitos e comunidades às quais pertencem. Classificaram-se as comunidades florestais ribeirinhas, relacionando-as com as condições ambientais e comparando-as entre si, através do índice de similaridade de Sørensen. Levantaram-se 91 espécies distribuídas em 39 famílias. As comunidades foram classificadas como Mata Psamófila da Foz, Mata Psamófila do Curso Médio e Mata Higrófila, junto às nascentes. A elevada riqueza específica, verificada ao longo de 13km do curso do arroio Itapuã, deve-se ao acentuado gradiente ambiental foz-nascentes, o qual permite uma grande diversidade de nichos. As 91 espécies amostradas constituem aproximadamente 37% de todas as espécies nativas arbóreas e arbustivas do município limítrofe de Porto Alegre. Observou-se que algumas áreas às margens do arroio estão degradadas, evidenciando o prejuízo ambiental causado pela supressão das matas ribeirinhas
