[Extract] When approached to write this chapter, we were asked to consider what skills and knowledge we thought were critical for non-Indigenous social workers to know and keep in the fore of their mind when working with Indigenous children and families in a child protection context. We were also asked to outline our thoughts on how practitioners might more effectively work with Indigenous children and families. With this in mind, there are three key sections in this chapter; namely, what has been in relation to child protection work with Indigenous children and families, how it is now, and some future practice considerations for practitioners
