This research sought to meet the Federal Transit Administration's goal to advance the development of standards and safer designs to reduce the number of collisions and fatalities and mitigate the severity of transit-bus-related injuries. This was accomplished by collecting and analyzing data on transit bus mirror configurations and incidents, researching bus operator visibility, developing a mirror design guide, and demonstrating an optimized transit bus mirror in pilot test and field evaluations.136
