Abstract

International audienceSince the 1960s, Francophone historical research has not given much place to women of Africa and even less to analyses in terms of social sexual relations. The study of the professionalization of a small category of literate women in French West Africa during the colonial period shows the changes within the society, family and couples brought about by access to the civil service by a few hundred African women before independence. The way the first women with degrees were perceived by their masculine counterparts, their discourse on their career, and the professional recognition they benefit from provide information on the changes in relations between the sexes in Africa as well as on women's condition in the societies ...
