A discussion of the role of genealogy in the medieval cult of saints, chiefly in Wales but with some comparison with Ireland and other regions. The focus is on the tract known as Bonedd y Saint, its origins, purpose and transmission. It is argued that the work should be read both in the context of other ethnohistorical writing from medieval Wales and also the interaction between the cult of saints and local identities throughout the medieval Christian world
