Principles of democracy in governance of the Football Association of the Czech Republic

Democracy is one of the principles of good governance in sport. The aim of the thesis is to evaluate this principle in the reality of the organization responsible for football management in the Czech Republic. The thesis evaluates degree of democracy of the Football Association, the influence of key cases on the development of democracy over time, but also the view of the members and the media on the aspect of democratic governance within the organization. The overarching research method is a case study in which a combination of qualitative and quantitative methods is used. To achieve the research goals, qualitative comparisons, measurement of democracy by international tools, a questionnaire survey and other methods are used. The results of the research show that the Football Association of the Czech Republic is a democratic organization with an average degree of democracy within a set of European football associations. Also, the biggest cause of democratization of the organization was the last case associated with the arrest of the former vice-president of the association. The results of the questionnaire survey show a not very positive but improving view of football clubs on democracy. Content analysis of articles, then neutral, and also an improving view of the media on the democratic governance of football.Demokracie je jedním z principů dobré správy sportu. Cílem této práce je hodnotit tento princip v realitě organizace zodpovědné za řízení fotbalu v České republice. Práce hodnotí míru demokratičnosti Fotbalové asociace, vliv klíčových kauz na vývoj demokracie v čase, ale i pohled samotných členů a médií na aspekt demokratického řízení uvnitř organizace. Zastřešující metodou výzkumu je případová studie, v níž je využíváno kombinace kvalitativních i kvantitativních metod. Pro dosažení výzkumných cílů je využito kvalitativního srovnávání, měření demokracie prostřednictvím mezinárodních nástrojů, dotazníkového šetření a dalších metod. Výsledky práce ukazují, že FAČR je demokratickou organizací s průměrným stupněm demokratičnosti v rámci množiny evropských fotbalových svazů. Také, že největším vliv na demokratizaci organizace měla poslední kauza spojená se zatčením bývalého místopředsedy asociace. Výsledky dotazníkového šetření ukazují ne příliš pozitivní, ale zlepšující se pohled fotbalových klubů na demokracii. Obsahová analýza článků, pak neutrální, a také se zlepšující pohled médií na demokratické řízení fotbalu
