Tutkimus kuului yhteistutkimukseen "Ravintorasvojen vaikutus sydän - ja verisuonitautien riskitekijöihin". Tämän osatutkimuksen tarkoituksena oli selvittää erilaisten ravintorasvojen; voi -, rypsi -, auringonkukka - ja kovetetun auringonkukkaöljyn sekä kerman vaikutus sikojen kasvuun, rehun hyväksikäyttöön, teuraslaatuun ja lihan laatuun. Veren kolesterolitutkimuksen tulokset julkaistaan toisaalla tässä lehdessä (KEMPPINEN et al. 1993). Voi-, rypsi-, auringonkukka- ja kovetetun auringonkukkaöljyn osuus rehusta oli 14,3 %. Kerman määrä rehuseoksessa oli 29,4 %. Perusrehu, johon rasvat lisättiin, koostui vähärasvaisista ja kuitupitoisista raaka-aineista. Rasvan lisäystaso vastasi noin 36 % rehun nettoenergiasta.
