This site developed by Boston University's Department of Physics describes typical Interactive Lecture Demonstration (ILD) structure. While involved, ILD is considered a highly effective teaching tool. In a typical case, 10% of the students understand the concept before instruction. This rises to about 20% after instruction in a traditional lecture course, compared with at least 80% in a course involving ILDs.
