A study on the Expression of Reality through the Meta-painting

학위논문(박사) -- 서울대학교대학원 : 미술대학 미술학과, 2022.2. 윤동천.This study describes the methodology of Jeong Zik Seong, which has continued to work for 21 years on recognizing modern society as a society dominated by capitalist production and a society where markets and products are fully developed, and how abstract forms can be reinterpreted and converted from a feminist perspective. I believe that the specificity of artists in modern society stems from a special economic structure position that the means of production is themselves, so they are both capitalists and workers who have to sell their works as goods. The artist believes that he should understand the characteristics of these human conditions in which he is located. On the other hand, he has been working under the awareness that he should produce works valuable to society on the premise of his special condition of being In this study, I first examine the basis of capitalist social structure analysis based on Karl Marx's capitalism theory to understand the artist's special economic structure position. And look into the details of life how human conditions are formed differently depending on social position and bring about different life experiences. Next, when implementing the themes of work set from a realist perspective based on the specific experiences of life in the form of paintings, we examine what kind of art historical context and topographic maps of the art world bring and appropriate forms to the work. Finally, in earnest, the works developed by classifying them by format and examine them in detail. It examines the logical development of modernism in modern painting represented by Clement Greenberg and its limitations influenced the Cold War period, resulting in a confrontation between Formalism and Minjung-Misul in the Korean art world, and describes how the relationship between paintings and abstracts is understood and judged. To me, painting seeks to find an appropriate expression method of painting under the premise of painting history that can express it flexibly and compressedly without missing the sense of personal identity formed by the social situations and conditions here. Who the artist himself defines himself is the most natural and inevitable process in the process of working, but above all, it is the point of absolute coordinate setting that defines the nature of the work. Under the limited premise of the artist's own condition of life, the part of who the artist himself wants to be is a part that cannot be separated from the nature of the work. I think each life should be able to be talked in an appropriate form independently. I live under the condition that I am a non-regular Korean woman and a mother of three children. Dedicating the precedents of art history in one's work is also a question of how one can rewrite art history, but at the same time, it is the most important point that there are always overlapping parts that reproduce and express what one has experienced in life. In other words, I would like to go beyond the dichotomy between representation and abstraction of life experienced under my own limited conditions and make it visible by referring to the forms and methodologies of various art history. This presupposes that the attitude of reality perception is taken in a way that the foundation expresses the upper structure beyond the general structure of reproducing the foundation. In formative speech, the role of conception and representation can specifically direct a specific object, and the role of abstraction can compress and reveal individual thoughts, ideologies, or feelings. Therefore, I think that in conducting the painting work, the two grammar methods can be included in a series of movements of concrete and ideological, foundation and superstructure, ideas and abstracts, representation and abstracts, and those commonly considered confrontational things. Through my own series of paintings, I would like to express that life is very intermediate, and that individual life is very private, but very political and universal. In general, people have a desire to think separately of private, political, universal, and ideological things, and to set up a hierarchy and recognize them under the name of rationality, but I want to express in the form of allegorical meta-painting that the separated things actually stick together and work dynamically.본 논문은 본 연구자 정직성(正直性 Jeong Zik Seong, 작가명)의 작품 방법론에 관해 연구하고 기술한 논문이다. 본인은 현대 사회를 기본적으로 자본주의적 생산방식이 지배하는 사회, 시장과 상품이 전면화되어 있는 사회로 인식하고 있다. 이러한 현대 사회를 살아가고 있는 본인은 한국의 비정규직 여성이자 세 아이의 엄마라는 한정된 조건 아래 경험한 본인의 삶에 대해서 회화 작품으로 표현하여 작품활동을 지속해왔다. 서구 현대 회화의 모더니즘 논리 전개 이후, 추상의 형식을 어떻게 여성주의적 관점에서 현실 표현의 수단으로 재해석하여 회화사의 맥락을 전환하여 전용할 수 있는지가 본인의 주된 관심사였다. 본인은 현대 사회에서 예술가의 특수성이란, 생산수단이 자기 자신이므로 생산수단을 소유한 자본가 계급이기도 하면서 동시에 자신의 노동을 상품으로 팔아야 하는 노동자 계급이기도 하다는 경제 구조적인 특수한 위치에서 기인한다고 보았다. 그리고 예술가는 자신이 자리하고 있는 이러한 인간 조건의 특성을 이해해야 한다고 보고 한국의 비정규직 여성이라는 본인의 특수한 사회 조건을 전제로 사회에 가치 있는 작품을 생산해야 한다는 자각 아래 작업을 진행해왔다. 본인은 작가로서 본인이 발 딛고 살아가고 있는 지금, 여기의 사회적 상황들과 그 조건들로 인해 형성되는 개인적 정체성에서 비롯되는 감각을 놓치지 않으려는 현실주의적 태도를 기본으로 하였다. 하지만 그것을 표현하는 회화 형식에 있어서 재현의 범주로 한정 짓지 않고 유연하고 압축적으로 현실을 표현할 수 있는 적절한 표현 방식을 추상을 비롯한 회화사의 여러 형식들을 참조해 찾고자 시도해왔다. 작가 자신이 자신을 누구로 규정하는가 하는 것은 작업을 진행하는 가운데 가장 당연하고도 필연적인 과정이기도 하지만 무엇보다 작품의 성격을 규정하는 절대적인 좌표 설정의 지점이다. 작가 자신의 삶의 조건이라는 한정된 조건 아래 작가 본인이 어떤 사람이고자 하는가 하는 부분은 작품의 성격과 분리하여 떼어낼 수 없는 부분이기 때문이다. 본인은 각자의 삶은 주체적으로 적절한 형식을 지니고 이야기될 수 있어야 한다고 보았다. 본인의 작업에서 미술사의 선례들을 전용하는 것은 미술사를 어떤 식으로 다시 쓸 수 있는가에 대한 문제이기도 하지만, 동시에 언제나 본인이 삶에서 경험한 부분에 대해 재현하고 그것을 표현하여 이미지로 만들어 내려는 부분이 중첩되어 있다는 것이 무엇보다 중요한 지점이었다. 본인은 본인의 한정된 조건 속에서 경험하는 삶을 재현과 추상의 이분법을 뛰어넘어 다양한 미술사의 형식과 방법론을 참조하여 본인이 설정한 맥락 아래 이미지로 만들어 가시화하고자 하였다. 이는 상부구조가 토대를 재현한다는 일반적인 구도를 뛰어넘어 상부구조를 토대가 표현한다는 방식으로 현실 인식의 태도를 전환하는 것을 전제로 한다. 본 논문에서는 먼저 예술가의 경제 구조적 특수한 위치에 대한 이해를 위해 카를 마르크스(Karl Marx)의 자본론을 바탕으로 자본주의 사회구조 분석의 근간을 살펴보았다. 그리고 사회적 위치에 따라 인간의 조건이 어떻게 다르게 형성되고 다른 공간적 경험으로 드러나게 되는지 공간과 장소의 개념을 젠더에 대한 이해를 전제로 들여다보았다. 다음으로, 본인이 삶의 구체적 경험을 기반으로 현실주의적 관점에서 설정한 작업의 주제들을 회화 형식으로 구현할 때, 어떤 미술사적 맥락과 미술계의 지형도 속에서 형식들을 작품에 끌어오고 전용하게 되는지 살펴보았다. 마지막으로, 본격적으로 본인의 회화 연작들을 분석의 대상으로 놓고 전개된 작품들을 형식별로 분류하여 구체적으로 기술하였다. 클레멘트 그린버그(Clement Greenberg)로 대표되는 현대 회화의 모더니즘의 논리 전개와 그 한계가 냉전 시기와 더불어 영향을 미쳐 한국 미술계에 형식주의와 민중 미술의 대립을 초래한 과정을 살펴보고, 그 이후 세대의 회화 작가로서 회화의 재현과 추상의 관계를 어떻게 이해, 판단하고 있는지를 기술하였다. 조형 어법에 있어서 구상, 재현의 역할은 현실의 특정한 대상을 구체적으로 지시할 수 있다는 특성, 추상의 역할은 개인의 생각과 이념 혹은 느낌을 압축해 드러낼 수 있다는 측면이 있다. 그래서 본인은 회화 작업을 진행함에 있어서 그 두 가지 어법을 포괄해 구체성과 관념성, 토대와 상부구조, 구상과 추상, 재현과 추상, 이렇게 흔히 대립적인 것들로 여겨지는 것들의 운동 과정을 연작들로 엮어 제시할 수 있다고 생각하였고, 본 논문에서 이러한 본인의 태도를 메타회화(Meta-painting)의 범주로 설명하였다. 본인은 본인의 회화 연작들을 통해 삶은 굉장히 중층적이며, 개인의 삶이란 매우 사적인 것이기도 하지만 동시에 매우 정치적이고 보편적이라는 것임을 표현하고자 하였다. 일반적으로 사람들은 사적인 것과 정치적이고 보편적인 것, 관념적인 것을 분리해서 생각하고, 합리성이라는 이름을 붙여 위계를 정하여 인식하고 싶은 욕구가 있지만, 본인은 그 분리된 것들이 실제로는 붙어서 서로 역동적으로 작용하며 변증법적으로 운동하고 있다는 것을 회화의 형식으로 가시화하고자 하였다.국문초록 Ⅰ. 서론 1 1. 연구의 동기 1 2. 연구의 목적과 의의 5 3. 연구의 범위와 방법 7 Ⅱ. 현실인식 9 1. 경제 계급 10 (1) 자본주의와 계급 10 (2) 예술가의 계급적 특수성 15 2. 현실의 반영: 공간과 장소, 젠더 19 (1) 공간 이론의 전개 19 (2) 한국의 현실: 장소특정성과 젠더 26 Ⅲ. 회화형식과 맥락 39 1. 모더니즘 회화형식 39 (1) 그린버그의 모더니즘론 40 (2) 추상의 형식과 정치성 50 (3) 한국 현대미술의 대립 75 2. 메타회화: 포스트모더니즘 회화의 전략 84 (1) 현대미술의 전용과 알레고리 87 (2) 메타회화의 선례들 97 Ⅳ. 현실주의적 메타회화 108 1. 작품 분석 112 (1) 연작 115 (2) 연작 124 (3) 연작 134 (4) 연작 141 (5) , 연작 147 (6) 연작 155 Ⅴ. 결 론 165 참고문헌 168 Abstract 177박
