The Children's Museum

The Children’s Museum teaches children about science and nature through productive play and by stimulating their imaginations. The Museum promotes science literacy and inquiry-based learning through a variety of programs including a Museum Pre-School, the Gengras Planetarium, the Roaring Brook Nature Center, and the United Technologies Wildlife Sanctuary. The Sanctuary provides a safe and humane home to confiscated illegal animals, unwanted pets, injured animals and non-native animals that arrive in shipments such as lumber or fruit, and provides interpretive and educational programs. Visitors to the Museum can view a life size Sperm Whale, see the diversity of the different turtle species in Turtle Town, or manage an ecosystem, conduct internet research, solve mysteries, or even save aliens in PlanetCyber, the Children's Museum's computer lab. Also at the Museum is ViewSpace, a multimedia exhibit portraying the universe through high-resolution images, digital movies and animations, interpretive captions, and space music. The Museum has an online Field Trip Guide, as well as a Teacher Resource Guide. The Just for Kids web page has Science Factoids, Experiment of the Month, Monthly Science Archives, and Astronomy Stuff. The Roaring Brook Nature Center features a one hundred acre wildlife sanctuary and outdoor classroom, with a facility housing displays on local flora and fauna as well as changing seasonal exhibits.
