Protein-energy malnutrition found in the elderly contributes to muscle decline (sarcopenia and dynapenia)and then to an increased morbi-mortality. Prevention and treatment of malnutrition is difficult due to a resistance to renutrition observed in the elderly; this can be explained by a high splanchnic extraction of amino acids at the post-prandial time, which results in a least stimulation of muscle proteosynthesis.
