In this unit, students examine published data that address the ecological consequences of enviromental disturbance (fire, hurricanes, landslides, etc.). Disturbance is a useful topic in the teaching of ecology and about disputes in science. The figure sets contain data on the intermediate disturbance hypothesis, the Hubbard Brook study, the ecology of fire, and the regeneration of New England conifer forests.
