Avec l'augmentation des réglementations climatiques et les appels à son remplacement dans les applications électrotechniques, une évaluation appropriée des alternatives possibles telles que l'air comprimé, le CO2, le HFO, etc. devrait être effectuée. Cependant, les méthodes de dimensionnement semi-empiriques utilisées actuellement ne sont pas optimisées pour les alternatives ayant des propriétés diélectriques légèrement inférieures.
