Les microalgues sont des micro-organismes photosynthétiques dont le potentiel a été mis en évidence au cours de la dernière décennie. Des applications peuvent être trouvées dans la production d’énergie renouvelable ou dans le traitement des eaux usées par exemple. Elles peuvent être utilisées dans beaucoup de produits commerciaux à haute valeur ajoutée comme par exemple dans l’alimentation, la pharmacie ou les cosmétiques. Néanmoins, trouver des conditions optimales pour la production des microalgues à grande échelle reste un défi en pratique.
