Malgré sa superficie relativement réduite (10452 Km2), la flore végétale libanaise possède un très haut niveau de biodiversité et un taux d’endémisme élevé. Au sein du bassin méditerranéen qui est riche en diversification, la région libanaise est considérée comme un «point chaud régional» à part entière. Vu que les recherches scientifiques sur les molécules d'intérêt des plantes Libanaises ont été focalisées sur les composés volatiles (huiles essentielles), les molécules non-volatiles sont très peu exploitées et rarement publiées.
