Les sources de Composés Organiques Volatils d’origine Biogénique (COVB) sont multiples (e.g. végétation terrestre, micro-organismes). Parmi les compartiments susceptibles d’émettre des COVB, la litière n’a été que très peu étudiée, contrairement à la canopée. Pourtant, les COVB une fois émis peuvent être à l’origine de la formation d’O3 et d’aérosols organiques secondaires (SOA) impactant directement les écosystèmes, le climat et la santé humaine. Or la litière s’accumule fortement en climat tempéré et sa présence tout au long de l’année en fait une source permanente.
