The 6XXX aluminum alloy series implementation by selective laser melting process

La fabrication additive SLM est une rupture technologique majeure dans le domaine del’aéronautique. Pour des applications de type Sonde, des alliages d’aluminium à hauteconductivité thermique et compatible de traitement de surface spécifique sont nécessaires.Malheureusement ces alliages ne sont pas processable en fabrication additive SLM.L’objectif de ces travaux est donc d’appréhender l’édification d’alliage d’Al de la série6XXX par procédé SLM. Deux domaines sont étudiés : le premier plus général qui concernela compréhension des sources de vieillissement particulaire et le second propre à la série quiconcerne la caractérisation et l’optimisation de sa microstructure.Les résultats obtenus montrent que le premier facteur influent sur la coulabilité des poudresest l’humidité rémanente. Elle est également la source principale de porosités sphériques quiagissent directement sur le comportement mécanique des pièces édifiées. L’étuvage despoudres avant fabrication permet de réduire son effet sans modifier les propriétésphysicochimiques des particules. Concernant la microstructure de l’Al6061, l’ajout d’élémentgerminant de type Zr annihile le phénomène de fissuration à chaud par affinement de la tailledes grains. La modification des paramètres d’édification ne le permet pas. Cette variationmicrostructurale est finalement exprimée à travers une carte de solidification basée sur lemodèle de Rosenthal.La gestion de la prise d’humidité des poudres est un élément essentiel pour stabiliser etmaximiser leur mise en œuvre. L’intervalle de solidification élevé de l’Al6061 nécessitel’utilisation d’élément germinant pour pallier au phénomène de fissuration à chaud.The SLM additive manufacturing process is a major technological breakthrough in the fieldof aeronautics. For probe applications, aluminum alloys compatible to specifics surfacetreatments and with high thermal conductivity are required. Unfortunately, these alloyscannot be implemented within the additive manufacturing process due to the high coolingrate.The aim of this work is therefore to understand the processing of the 6061 aluminum alloy bySLM. Two areas are studied: the first concerns the understanding of the sources of particleaging and the second specific to the series concerns the characterization and optimization ofits microstructure.The results obtained show that the first factor influencing the flowability of powders is theresidual moisture. It is also the main source of spherical porosities which act directly on themechanical behavior of the built parts. Steaming the powders before manufacture reducestheir effect without modifying the physicochemical properties of the particles. Regarding themicrostructure of Al6061, the addition of AlZr germinating elements eliminates thephenomenon of hot cracking by refining the grain size. Modifying the building parametershas no impact on this issue. The microstructural variation, function of the cooling conditionsand the quantity of Zr, is finally expressed through a solidification map based on theRosenthal model.The management of the powders moisture is an essential element for stabilizing andoptimizing their implementation.
