Since 2011, 74 cases of infections and colonizations by VIM-2 carbapenemaseproducing Pseudomonas aeruginosa (Pa) have been identified in Caen University Hospital, including 4 epidemics in high-risk units. Epidemiological investigations highlighted the major role of the environment in the contamination of patients with persistence of the germ in water points, namely in drain traps. The implementation of a multimodal strategy consisting of clinical and environmental surveillance, decontamination measures for drain traps and surfaces and the review of healthcare practices on excreta management has been successful in stopping epidemics.
