International audienceSMART is a tool to access, read and retrieve electronic documents. It is a multimodal system as it offers mainly audio and tactile modalities for interacting with the electronic document. SMART is multilingual as the menus and messages are available for French, German and English. It is currently operational with structured documents. The specification of an interaction model gives to SMART adaptive characteristics to individual user requirements (devices, reading strategy, personal flags). The prototype built on these principles will be described for French and German languages on electronic newspapers and articles
