Sequence stratigraphy is a technique used to subdivide the sedimentary section into packages that are defined by bounding unconformities and internal surfaces, and are the products of changes in relative sea level and rates of sedimentation. Sequence stratigraphic analyses are made from seismic cross-sections, well logs, and outcrop studies of sedimentary rocks to infer changes of relative sea level and rates of sedimentation, and predict the continuity and extent of their lithology.
