Mulighetsstudie for ny sykkelforbindelse mellom Sykehuset Østfold Kalnes og Sarpsborg sentrum

This thesis explores the possibilities for a new bicycle route between Sykehuset Østfold Kalnes and Sarpsborg city center. Sykehuset Østfold Kalnes is the third largest workplace concentration in the Lower Glommaregion and it is therefore emphasized on developing a route that can make commuters switch from car to bicycle commuting. Through studying literature I have explored what types of bicycle infrastructure is most commonly used and what type of bicycle infrastructure is most suitable for commuter cyclists. It is assessed three routes inside the built-up area and three routes outside the built-up area, which eventually is combined into one continuous route. The routes are assessed by the criteria mobility, objective safety, subjective safety, experience and feasibility. The assessments show that outside the built-up area a high standard bicycle path is most suitable, but closer to the city center space limitations and area type requires a different kind of bicycle infrastructure
