Although any population is at risk of contracting sexually transmitted diseases, young adults between the ages of 20–24 years are at a higher risk of contracting these infections. Apart from abstinence, which is the only method that is 100% effective in preventing STIs and unwanted pregnancies, consistent condom use has been found to be the next most effective way to prevent STIs.
