This applet simulates the difficult concepts of adiabatic processes. A leaf visually symbolizes a parcel of air rising over a mountain. Users are allowed to vary the beginning temperature and vapor-pressure of the parcel of air, and the relative wind speed as it moves up and over a mountain. Graphs then display temperature verus altitude and vapor pressure as the leaf rises and falls. A series of questions guide the student to explore the conditions ( temperature, altitude, vapor pressure, dew point ) under which a cloud would form.
