This work is focused on the growth and the analysis of the potentials of Tm3+ doped YVO4 and Y2O3 single crystals for diode-pumped laser emission around the 1.5 μm eye safe laser wavelength. Both systems show broad-band absorptions around 800 nm and large stimulated emission cross sections around. 1.5 μm. © 1997 Elsevier Science B.V
