Oral history interview with Dr. Nathan J. Schneider, former Director of the State Laboratory of Florida. Dr. Schneider describes his early tenure managing the lab in Jacksonville, Florida, and the Polio vaccine testing that was done at the time, especially in the Miami region. He discusses the importance of virology work and how that developed over time in building the laboratory’s capabilities. Under Dr. Schneider’s direction, the laboratory also expanded newborn blood testing, environmental pathogen screening, and developed testing and certification procedures for impaired driving enforcement.
